It's so comforting to know little places that warm my heart are popping up around my past and present homes. Last weekend we paid a visit to my mom in my hometown in the hudson valley. My mother, knowing my tastes (and cravings) found out about a local bakery serving up brunch and breakfast using their own home-grown home-ground flours straight from the neighborhood earth.
The farm is called Wild Hive and they've been milling their own organic flour since 2005. They have a small bakery/store right on salt point turnpike in Clinton Corners, NY. Inside, you can not only buy all of their flours, blends, cornmeals and oats but also an array of locally produced items like meat, vegetables and even homemade dogfood. What's more, they're baking all kinds of yummy treats with the goods they produce (holy chocolate meringue cookies!) and have a delicious little menu of cafe items you can enjoy for breakfast and lunch. I have to recommend the grits, they are especially corny and honestly some of the best I've ever tasted. We took some home to make ourselves, and I can only hope to do them justice!
If you're from or around the hudson valley, please drop in or do the same in your own neck of the woods. Sustainable agriculture keeps us all happy and healthy!
