We usually have thanksgiving at my in-laws every year. I bring a couple dishes, no clean up or stress for me. This year, because of everything that's happened of late, I wanted to be with my family upstate and cook the entire meal for everyone with special requests in mind. Can you tell my people like pork?
I started cooking this meal for my family around 14 years old. I was scared to death of messing up, what would everyone eat if I totaled the meal? Would they tell me the truth or lie to save my feelings? How the hell am I (a vegetarian at the time) going to stick my hand in a bird?? I told myself I could do it (thanks to watching nothing but the food network since I was 11) and just followed the recipes to the letter. 15 years later, I've got a MUCH better handle on my timing and my side dishes are totally on point. I sourced a lot of the ingredients local to my parent's house in the hudson valley, found a gluten free bakery to make me my own dried bread chunks for a stuffing, got my family to eat tons of veggies AND, no hands went anywhere thanks to a genius move on my part; just cooking the breast. Thanksgiving=conquered. (stay tuned for a follow up dessert post!)
